Fat Embolism Syndrome

Trauma to the long bone or pelvis accounts for —9096 of cases. The diagnosis is often missed or masked in the trauma patient. Prompt surgical stabilization of fractures reduces the risk of occurrence. Pathophysiology (debated) - ? Embolism of marrow fat round the body. Sudden onset widespread pulmonary obstruction can occur. FES is a clinical diagnosis. Mortality 10-20%.
