Associate Director, Scientific Publications

The Associate Director, Scientific Publications is a strategic member of the MAPS PBC Medical Affairs team, reporting to the Head of Medical Affairs. The Associate Director will oversee development, management and execution of MAPS PBC’s publication strategy. They will build and amend a publication roadmap to align with defined scientific communication objectives and pipeline strategy. Through partnership with cross-functional leaders across Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Science, and Clinical Development, the Associate Director will identify evidence gaps, design strategies for data dissemination, and identify resources to execute publication development.

Key Responsibilities

• Publications Strategy: Lead and oversee development of MAPS PBC’s publication strategy in alignment with defined scientific communication objectives to address defined knowledge/research gaps and enable timely presentation/publication of product data. Provide direction and guidance to internal and external authors to ensure initiatives are aligned with the overarching publication strategy and adhere to industry best practices and Good Publication Practice guidelines. Communicate publication strategy status and changes effectively across MAPS PBC’s internal leadership teams and provide recommendations for actions to ensure achievement of the set strategy.
• Scientific Publication Development: Provide oversight and project management for scientific publication development (e.g., clinical manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations), ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to project timelines. Assist as needed in managing publication development activities in iEnvision Datavision publication management software, including internal and external review and collection of authorship agreements, financial disclosures, author approvals and documentation.
• Publication Standards and Compliance:  Develop and maintain expert knowledge of regulations, requirements, policies, and guidelines that apply to the preparation and production of publications, and ensure understanding, compliance and application to publications by internal and external collaborators. Oversee all publication agency partners to ensure compliance with MAPS PBC policies and procedures including but not limited to data use, communications with internal and external collaborators, documentation, and publication quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

• Advanced degree in a scientific discipline; MD, PharmD or PhD preferred
• 5+ years of medical/scientific writing experience in the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry, academia, or related experience required
• Demonstrated project management, organization, and time management skills
• Proven ability to interpret scientific and clinical trial data and effectively communicate in multiple publication formats and to diverse audiences
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners to build effective working relationships and gain consensus
• Working knowledge of the drug development process and its application to the strategic publication planning process
• Thorough knowledge of GPP3, ICMJE, CONSORT, AMA and other publication standards
• Experience overseeing publication strategy in a pharmaceutical environment preferred
• CMPP certification preferred
• CNS experience preferred
• Experience working with a publications management tool (e.g., PubSTRAT, DataVision) preferred
• Ability to travel up to 20%
