Tuberculin Skin Test Interpretation - Threshold for treatment

Induration cutoff >5mm:

 • Recent exposure to an individual with active TB

 • Abnormal CXR consistent with old TB disease

 • HIV infected patients

 • Immunocompromised patients

Induration cutoff >10mm:

 • Children > 4 years of age

 • Born in countries with incidence

 • Residents/employees in high risk settings (healthcare facilities, prisons/jails, homeless shelters, mycobacteriology labs)

 • Patients who have:

     • kidney disease and are on hemodialysis

     • diabetes mellitus

     • leukemia/lymphoma or carcinoma of head/neck/lung

     • jejunoileal bypass

     • silicosis

 • Underweight 

 • Injection drug users

Induration cutoff >15mm:

 • Healthy individuals
