Differential diagnosis for pyogenic liver abscess:

Infectious etiologies predominate. Most are pyogenic (bacterial). Amebic (Entamoeba histolytica) and hydatid cyst (Echinococcus) important.

Bacterial

 • Pyogenic Liver Abscess

 • Tuberculosis

 • Melioidosis (Burkholderia

 • Bartonella

Fungal

 • Hepatosplenic Candidiasis

 • Endemic Fungi

Parasite/Protozoa

 • Amebic Liver Abscess

 • Hepatic Hydatid Cyst (Echinococcus)

 • Fasciola (liver fluke)

Non-lnfectious

 • Malignancy

     • Hepatocellular Carcinoma

     • Metastasis

 • Simple Cyst

 • Hemangioma

 • Biloma
