Typical COVID19 chest x-ray versus normal. The image on the right shows multi-focal patchy airspace opacities. For those who are non-medical or don't look at chest x-rays often, see my comments for description.
The darkest areas on the normal image are the lungs because it is less dense due to being filled with air, allowing more x-rays to pass through the tissue. When you compare to the right, these areas are "whited out" as more "stuff" inhibits the x-rays. The "stuff" is pneumonia.
