Isotretinoin is a very effective drug for the treatment of severe acne, but has a severe risk of fetal toxicity. Here are the requirements of the program, and everyone involved has responsibilities. Main points are that prescriptions are written by a prescriber each month after appropriate counseling and confirming a negative pregnancy test for the patient. Also, the pharmacy must dispense the drug within 7 days. Take note that male patients and female patients who cannot become pregnant ARE still required to go through the iPledge program, but the requirements differ slightly.
