ACC/AHA Statin Guidelines - 2013 vs 2017

In 2013 the ACC/AHA guidelines drastically changed the way we treat #dyslipidemia, by introducing the 4 statin benefit groups and taking away the traditional LDL goals. The first column lists these 4 groups, and the second column says which statin to use. In 2016 and 2017, ACC released a consensus statement on non-statin therapies, which essentially said to optimize the appropriate statin therapy, and consider adding the non statin therapies of ezetimibe or PCSK9 inhibitors depending on the group, if the LDL goal isn’t met (third column). You may also alternatively use the LDL decrease from baseline instead of the target LDL. For a high intensity statin we expect a >50% LDL reduction, while moderate intensity should provide 30-50% reduction.
