Rubella (German Measles)

Rubella, also called German measles, often presents with a mild febrile illness with a diffuse maculopapular rash, generalized malaise, along with lymphadenopathy.  Congenital infection is highly pathologic (major birth defects and death) 

Clinical 

• Transmitted by respiratory droplets 

• Mild illness 

• Low grade fever 

• Erythematous papular rash begins on face then spreads to trunk 

• Posterior cervical lymphadenopathy
