Formerly SPICE / SPACE organisms.  Gram-negative bacteria that have inducible, chromosomal beta-lactamase genes known as AmpC.  Resistance may not be detectable initially, but appears after a period of exposure to beta-lactam antibiotics and 3rd generation cephalosporins.
