June is recognized as International #Scoliosis Awareness month with the goal of public education, early detection and awareness about scoliosis and its prevalence.



𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀?

⚕️Scoliosis is characterized by an abnormal #curvature of the #spine sideways in an "S" or "C" shape.



⚕️With may different #types of Scoliosis, it's hard to define a definite cause, however, common factors often associated with scoliosis include #birth #defects, age-related changes,

and a variety of conditions like #muscular #dystrophy, #cerebral #palsy, and #spondylolisthesis.



⚕️According to the Scoliosis Research Society, approximately one out of every six #children diagnosed with scoliosis will have a curve that requires active #treatment 



⚕️The disorder affects around 7 million people in the United States alone and is usually diagnosed between ages 10 and 15.



⚕️In the UK, public screening for scoliosis is not provided and in the US two-thirds of states mandate or recommend scoliosis screening in schools.



⚕️Screening is quick, non-invasive, and can lead to successful treatment to prevent long-term #back #pain and other health problems.



⚕️Scoliosis can be treated using a number of different methods, with #bracing and #spinal #fusion #surgery being the most common.
