Description

Bear Hug Test for Subscapularis Injury



The patient places the hand of the affected arm palm down on the opposite shoulder.  The patient is asked to maintain this position against resistance (internally rotation) as the examiner attempts to apply external rotation force to remove the hand from the shoulder.



The test is positive if the patient is unable to maintain position or demonstrates weakness relative to the other side.
