Jerk Test for Glenohumeral Joint Posteroinferior Instability



The arm is held at 90 degrees abduction and internal rotation.  The examiner supports the scapula and applies an axial load to the elbow while the arm is moved horizontally across the body medially and laterally to return back to the original position.

The test is positive if you feel a jerk/clunk as the humeral head slides off of the glenoid, and another jerk/clunk as it returns to the glenoid.
