Waxy Flexibility in Catatonia

Catatonia is a psychomotor condition characterized by the total loss of motor initiative, fixed and static posture (it remains like a wax doll), along with mutism (does not speak) and withdrawal. In catatonia the patient remains immobile and absorbed in the world around him, does not eat, does not drink, does not control his biological needs, needs continuous assistance.

Although catatonia has historically been associated with schizophrenia, it should not be forgotten that catatonic symptoms are nonspecific and can occur in other disorders, such as NMDA encephalitis.
