Neer Test for Shoulder Impingement on Physical Examination



Standing on the testing side, one hand stabilize the patient's scapula, the other hand is placed over the patient's forearm.  Rotate the shoulder internally and then passively elevate the arm above the head to maximal shoulder flexion.

The test is positive if the patient complains of pain in the shoulder during maximal shoulder flexion.
