Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) Interpretation Algorithm



Approach to PFTs:

1) Look at Flow-Volume Loop if available

2) FEV1/FVC < 70% (obstruction or not?)

3) FVC < LLN? (restrictive component?)

4) TLC < LLN? (confirm restrictive component)

5) DLCO < LLN? (diffusion defect?)

6) Consider Reversibility, grade Severity,
