Kawasaki Disease (KD) - Diagnosis and Management Summary



Kawasaki Disease (KD) is the most common vasculitis of childhood. KD rarely occurs in adults.

Presentation: 

 • Fever, Conjunctivitis, Mucositis, Rash, Hand edema, Lymphadenopathy, Tachycardia, Arthritis, Cough

 • +/-Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

 • It can cæxist with other infections



Diagnostic Criteria - Fever lasting ≥ 5 days and 4 of the following:

  1. Bilateral conjunctival injection

  2. Fissured lips injected pharynx, or strawberry tongue

  3. Erythema of palms or soles, edema of hands or feet,

  4. Polymorphous rash

  5. Cervical lymphadenopathy



Management: IVIG +/- Aspirin
