 • Confirmatory or Screening - Detection of antibodies directed against specific treponemal antigens.

 • Specific = Definitive

 • High Cost

 • FTA-ABS, MHA-TP, TPPA, TP-EIA, CIA

Non-Treponemal Testing:

 • Reactivity of patient serum to a cardiolipin-cholesterol-lecithin antigen.

 • Nonspecific = Not Definitive

 • Low Cost, Fast

 • RPR, VDRL, TRUST
