Prostate Zonal Anatomy
 • Transition Zone: Surrounds the prostatic urethra. Enlargement of this zone results in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
 • Central Zone: Lies in the base of the prostate posterior to the transition zone and surrounds bilateral ejaculatory duct. Comprises 25% of the gland.
 • Anterior Fibromuscular Stroma: Small area situated on the anterior aspect of the prostate
 • Peripheral Zone: Located on the posterior and lateral aspect of the prostate. Comprises 70% of the gland. Almost all carcinoma arise from this area.
