Note the shape of these appropriately named erythrocytes.

In addition to hereditary elliptocytosis, elliptocytes can be seen in hemoglobinopathies, megaloblastic anemia, myelophthisic anemia, congenital dyserythropoietic anemia, sideroblastic anemia, and severe iron deficiency anemia.
