Warfarin-Induced Skin Necrosis
Aside from bleeding, the other major toxicity of warfarin is skin necrosis.
Warfarin skin necrosis is exceptionally rare, but extremely disfiguring, and potentially life-threatening.
The mechanism is related to the shorter half-life of the endogenous anticoagulant factor protein C, as compared to the procoagulant vitamin-K dependent factors.
