Wide Complex Tachycardia - ECG Definition and Causes

 • Wide Complex Tachycardia (WCT) is a cardiac rhythm with a rate > 100 bpm and QRS width ≥ 0.12 sec

 • Aka Wide QRS tachycardia or WQRST

Causes:

 • Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) (~80%)

 • Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)

     - with aberrancy in the His-Purkinje system (~15-20%)

     - with anterograde accessory pathway conduction (~1-6%)

     - with fixed BBB or bizarre baseline QRS

     - in presence of drug effect or electrolyte imbalance

 • Ventricular pacing

 • Electrocardiogram artifact
